Staying Healthy During the Holidays

While the holidays are a fun and exciting time, some people also end up going overboard when it comes to indulging in holiday dinners, treats, and parties. We at Suffolk County Chiropractic, a chiropractor in Commack want you to be able to enjoy the holiday season, but also to not have to worry about losing track of your health.  Here are some tips you can use to enjoy the holiday season in a healthier way.

With the cold weather approaching us, that means it is almost time for cold and flu season. One simple way to avoid this is simply by washing your hands for 20 seconds in warm water. Another way to avoid germs would be keeping your food well-refrigerated to avoid food-borne illness. If you are hosting a holiday party, tell your guests to only use their plates once, and to avoid sharing.

Germs are not the only thing to worry about during the holidays. As the holidays are a stressful time, some people deal with their stress by avoiding exercise and by indulging in emotional eating. To avoid this happening to you, try to make some time each time to do some exercise. Even doing just a small amount each day will keep your brain and body moving in a healthier way. Although those sugar cookies may be cute and tempting, try to avoid sweets as much as you can, and try healthier alternatives instead, such as fruits and vegetables. It is also important to make time each day for relaxation. If you know how to relax, this will help you keep your sanity during this stressful time of year.

To relax during the holidays, one important thing that often gets overlooked is sleep. Make sure that you are well-rested before you go on shopping sprees, or before hosting or going to parties. Our Commack Chiropractor understands the importance of sleep, and how having a healthy back is essential to this. If you have a healthy back, this will also help the holidays go by a lot smoother, and by following these tips, you will not have to worry about losing all that extra weight on January 1 or worry about getting those annoying winter colds.
